Winter Wonderland Wedding in Manhasset, NY
Dec 3 2018

On December 30, 2017, Kelly and Daniel exchanged vows in a practical winter wonderland. The forecast predicted cold weather, but the happy couple did not expect the oncoming snowstorm. However, that didn’t stop the two from enjoying their big day. In fact, according to Kelly, “We were a little nervous about our guests arriving safely, [but] the snow made the ambiance (and our pictures) absolutely magical. I wouldn’t have traded it for anything!”

The couple, who had met in an unconventional (but still sweet) way, approached this day as they had their whole relationship. Kelly and Dan had met on Tinder, the popular dating app. In Kelly’s words, “I told everyone I had the best date ever... but then he never called me!” Yet, fate brought the two together again when Dan reached out to Kelly nearly a year and a half later after that first date, by finding her on her firm’s website. “[He] reconnected apologizing for bad timing. Might be the longest time between a first and second date in history!”

The two didn’t just have a love for each other, but they also shared a love for old-timey style. They decided to marry at the Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club, once owned by the Vanderbilts. Kelly says, “To honor that history, our theme was Art Deco/Great Gatsby inspired.” (As evidenced by the pictures, this style and the decor stayed true to the theme in a gorgeous, classy way!)

The reception was held on the club grounds in a heated tent because of the weather, but still, the cold and the snow didn’t stop the whole party. Kelly spoke of the event, including her favorite memory of the day: “We hired a brass band to play music and march all the guests in a Second Line-style parade from the clubhouse cocktail hour to the tent for the reception. My favorite moment was leading all our loved ones in the parade dancing through the snowy night in the parade up to the tent.”

As the first anniversary of their big day approaches, we reminisce on this beautiful winter wedding and the happy couple, and here at Miss Design Berry, we couldn’t be more grateful to have been a part of this event. Even Kelly described how she felt the custom work helped add that unique spin to the wedding: “Miss Design Berry helped us with so many decor items for the wedding - from napkins to our welcome signage, but what really elevated our wedding was the incredible work they did with our unique program. We really wanted a personal touch to the program, and the personalized sketches and bios of our wedding party were a HUGE hit! People still talk about them!”
